Is My PSU Frying Video Cards?

I was playing Skyrim when my monitors (3) all went black and I was forced to shutdown by pressing the power button. I restarted the computer and I heard my 780 Ti fan going at a very high speed and nothing appeared on any monitor. I can boot with HDMI on my Asus Hero VI motherboard. I tried plugging in a R9 290 that was in another computer and it would not work. Now the R9 290 card will not work in the computer I pulled it out of!

I first tried switching the PCI-E slots and the power cables. The 780 Ti will not work in the other machine.

Please tell me someone has a brilliant idea here and my two very expensive (to me) cards are not now both fried.

I should add I have been using my PC for over a year with no problems and it has never been overclocked. I also flashed the latest BIOS. Corsair RM850 PSU.

I can not figure this out and I am really hoping my cards are not done for. I had no problems, and seemingly still no problems, other than my PCI-E slots or cards stopped working out of the blue. I have this computer running fine on HDMI and the other one, that I stole the R9 290 from which seemingly no longer works, is up and running with a GTX 285. I am afraid to try the GTX 285 in this machine because the R9 290 no longer works in either after trying that.

I really hope someone can help shed some light on to my problem here. I've combed the bios after flashing it and I am simply stumped.

I miss playing video games. I do not want to bump.
