Why do my games lag when my computer is good?

I have a good computer: Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-3570K CPU @ 3.40GHz, 3801 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 4 Logical , 16 GB of ram, AMD Radeon HD 7900 series. But my games lag unless I go to medium or low settings but my friend says for most games I should be maxed or near maxed graphics. Is my friend right or do I need an upgrade to play games better.

What is the exact video card you have? The CPU is fine, if you have issues you may need to upgrade the video card or possibly install a clean Windows setup with new drivers.

i just removed amd/ati drivers from my computer and reinstalled the latest one and it still didnt help. Should I be able to play games like dying light and gta5 on high?

what kind of games you are trying to play? monitor you GPU temperature and see it is not over the limit.
