Extend Wireless Network around house

Hi
My mum, lives in a relatively small house, but for some reason WiFi does not penetrate the walls particularly well and sig strength is minimal in other rooms , we have tried different routers and moving the existing router closer to a central location but to no avail

I have Cat5e in each room but would need to be using WiFi in the rooms, preferably with the same SSID, with a smooth transition from one to another.
From what I have read Wireless extenders need to be within range of the existing signal to then repeat that signal on.
This is not a practical solution here

1, Do I need an AP
2, Can a Wireless Extender be adapted to be hard wired then used as an extender.

I think that is it.
I have not provided equipment details as I currently only have the ISP router and no secondary equipment, and the ISP router can be changed.

many thanks in advance

Keith

Solution
get a router and configure it as an AP, then connect it via the CAT5e cable to the main router.

there is no such thing then smooth transitioning between wifi signals.

the system does not switch to the stronger one until it looses connection to the first one.

You are on the right track with adding access points. My experience is that the transitioning from AP to AP when the SSID is the same is OK. I can walk around my house and maintain video streaming on a tablet, for instance. Most routers, like a spare one you might have lying around, can serve as access points by turning off the DHCP function and connecting the Ethernet into the LAN port.
