Motherboard: Gigabyte F2A85X-UP4
CPU: Amd A10 5800K
GPU: XFX R9 270x 4GB
RAM: 8GB
HDD: 500GB, 7200RPM

When driving in the city center i noticed some fps drops (in the prologue i got 70+ so turned fraps off, hoping it would be the same), i am playing on high settings, MSAA off. So i turned MSI Afterburner on to monitor my hardware and this is pretty much what i get.

Normally the fps is around 40-50 when i'm in a low density areas. When i drove on West Eclipse BLVD it dropped to 32, reaching a minimum of 26-27 at the end of the street, near Eclipse towers. In the deserts, near the oceans and on mountains i get solid 60 fps. The Gpu usage never goes beyond 44-50 or 60%. Mostly it's around 44% in the city. CPU has 2 physical cores, 2 virtual. All of them are under around 80-100% load.

I have installed the latest 15.4 beta drivers right over the older ones, with no uninstalling and no driver sweeping/cleaning. Is there anything the community could suggest me to do? Or maybe point out the problem, or the most possible problem? Thank you in advance :)

Im going to be that guy, and just say sit tight! The FPS drops are a common problem, especially when driving due to the game having to quickly load in new textures/objects.

This was a major problem upon release for Far Cry 4, but patches and driver updates reduced it significantly.

As for GPU usage, that does seem a little low. The game, due to its open world city nature, will be heavy on the CPU as that is what is having to calculate all NPC actions happening around you. For example, with a GTX 780ti, the difference between using an intel i3 and an intel i7 CPU is approximately 25fps*

I would expect a GPU driver to come out within the next few weeks that will help maximise your GPU's efficiency.

while i have not checked if GTA makes full use of quads, i would assume it does. These days, quads are often utilized.

well, just to be sure, since you have afterburner already, why not add hwinfo64 to it and monitor cpu usage as well (among other things), that should clear things up

has everything to do with the city from what i read about what you posted, you can try lower graphical settings in the game, you dont need v sync on if it is, if you are playing gta 5 on pc, as you know it was just released and no patch has happened yet, gta 5 owners did say their servers were having major issues so it could be as simple as waiting intill they patch the servers or you could try what i suggested, to see if that helps for the time being.

Thanks awesome people. I do have the cpu usage enabled in afterburner and it shows 4 cores under 80-100% load in the city and around 60% out of the city. While being out of the city my gpu usage grows for about 20% and i get a massive fps increase. I made a screenshot of task manager and afterburner if anyone is interested.

Considering that the minimum recommended CPUs are both quad-cores, I'd say that it does take advantage of the multiple threads.

And while it might look like it's a CPU bottleneck, there have been waaay too many people the past week complaining about the same kinds of drops on with GTX 970s & i7-4790Ks running at 1080p for it to be simply a CPU issue. It's more likely an issue with the game itself, & there's only so much driver patching AMD/nVidia can do. Rockstar's going to have to clean up their console port.

GTA V is definitely CPU bound, I got some pretty decent performance improvements while driving by simply throwing a 400 MHz overclock onto my old i5. If you have an aftermarket CPU cooler, you may want to consider giving your CPU a bit of a clockspeed bump and see if that helps you.

What software did you use for overclocking?

Did it from my BIOS, you can use software if you want, just go to your motherboard vendor's website and look for the Overclocking utility for your motherboard. The big drawback with using software is that it tends to throw more voltage on your CPU then you actually need for stability, leading to higher temperatures. Also if you push your overclock far enough that you run into stability problems, you could render Windows unbootable with the software, but that can be fixed by resetting your CMOS.

Thanx, yeah i was lucky enough to find a tutorial on my APU overclocking on youtube, dude did it from bios too. So i'll try that, will not push it too much though, have the stock cooler. If the changes are not so noticeable will revert the settings and just deal with this bullsh*t. I feel so angry on myself for not being well informed about this sort of cpus and buying it along with a discrete card back in 2013. Can't even change it to intel without changing the mobo lol.

I don't think so, even if you do, you will still be getting and excellent 60 fps all the time. Unless you plan to play on a 4K resolution.
