Background: I was attempting to allocate a portion of my HDD (entirely Windows 7) for a smaller partition that would just be Windows XP.

I did this via Partition Master and was successfully able to boot onto the Windows 7 partition with the other 60gb~ allocated and formatted for an OS install. With Windows XP bootable on my flash drive, I rebooted and began installing on the 60GB partition (didn't touch the other one via the Windows Setup).

It was installing fine but towards the end I received an error that it couldn't copy a particular file. I was only able to "skip" and proceed. My PC rebooted, as prompted, during the install and I chose to boot back onto my HDD (instead of the flash drive) because I thought the copied file error was an issue. When I tried to do this, I received the following error:

"Windows could not start because of a computer disk hardware configuration problem. Could not read from the selected boot disk. Check boot path and disk hardware."

I was then only able to boot through my flash drive, which continued the XP installation successfully despite the file error. (msvbvm50 copy error, for the record).

After XP installed, my computer rebooted and my BIOS boot menu (Biostar A770 mobo) now just shows this instead of the Windows 7 option that I used to receive.

XP boots fine, I'm all set up on it, but I cannot access my old Windows 7 install which is on my C Drive. I'm able to access files by copying them over and that sort of thing, but I can't boot to it or I just don't know how to do that (a sort of re-linking process?)

I tried going into EasyBCD, but it appears that any alteration of the boot menu shown in there has no affect on what I see in my BIOS. Note: I WAS able to add/remove entries before I installed XP via the same method.

Here's a look at my partitions in Partition Master:

Lastly, in Disk Management:

This isn't a huge issue, since I didn't lose the files on my C drive partition, but I don't want to have to copy all of them out of the partition then reformat that space if I can just do some sort of re-link or fix the BIOS boot menu so that I can get back into C.

Thanks in advance!

Ah right, I forgot about that. So pop in my Windows 7 CD and do a repair of that C: drive partition?

After thinking this isn't what I needed, I just did the EasyBCD steps of option 2, but substituted Windows 7 for XP. The key here was that I wasn't doing the second step within EasyBCD. My BIOS boot menu now has the Windows 7 and XP options.

Thanks!
