Well, the question says it.
Will my system be stable if I put a 2GB ram stick along with an 8GB ram stick resulting in 10GB of Ram? Or its best if I should just go with 8GB of ram or 16GB?
My laptop has 2 ram slots and I'm willing to get maximum ram performance.

Regards,
Zeekayy.

Ah yeah that's brand new. It should handle an 8GiB dual-rank DIMM/SO-DIMM just fine.

Most older chipsets do not support the high density chips used in 8 gigabyte DIMMs, so that DIMM may not work at all sadly.

What motherboard do you have?

Should've mentioned this earlier.

HP 15-R204NE
5th Generation Core i5-5200U
4GB 1600 Mhz DDR3L SDRAM
500GB HDD
2GB DDR3 Nvidia Geforce 820M Dedicated.

So a 2GiG stick and an 8GiG stick together should be fine?

Assuming that the 8GiB stick is dual-rank and constructed from 4 gigabit chips it should be fine. If it's constructed from 8 gigabit stacked chips it may not work but DIMMs constructed from those are not found in stores. When you purchase it, check the return policy.

If I were you, I'd get a matched pair of 8GiB SO-DIMMs. This minimizes any potential compatibility issues.

Well, I've attached the screenshots from CPU-Z, you can have a look.
What I think is that the 4GiB stick I have is a single-rank, but you can have a look and give me the best suggestion.
And yeah, I didn't know there was only one slot occupied on my laptop.
And also, what is return policy?

Thanks again!
