GTX 770 upgrade to GTX 970 (or wait ?)

Hello dear experts! Currently I am using GIGABYTE GTX 770 (2gb) OC with Core I5 2500 k overclocked to 4.2 Ghz / 8 GB of ram. I have purchased GTX 770 around a year and a half ago. So my question is should I upgrade to GIGABYTE GTX 970 G1 edition to play at 1080 p or wait till next NVIDIA release. I would like to stick with NVIDIA cards at the moment. The main issue from my perspective that now more games demand more than 2 Gb of video memory and honestly I am regretting that I didn't pick up GTX 770 with 4 Gb of memory onboard. Also I would like to mention that in my country GTX 970 G1 costs around 260 pounds (385 dollars). So if I would like to resell my GTX 770 I need to add around 130 pounds (190 dollars) for GTX 970. Is it worth it? Thanks for helping!

i just sold my 4GB 770 Windforce 3X for $275. is the 2GB really $85 less used?
i didn't really find any users claiming much performance increase from 4GB 770 to "3.5"GB 970.

i saw my 770 running with up to 3.8***GBs of data many times. that "2.2GBs thing" may have been a problem for a certain version of the 770 but wasn't across the whole series.

if money is an issue you may want to just start saving now and get a 6 or 8GB of the next line of NVidia\AMD. 4GB isn't cutting it in many game's maximum settings even now.
if money isn't an issue and the 2GBs is limiting you but 4GB is good for now, go do the 4GB 980.

for less then 10% performance increase in bf4 is 130 pounds worth it? if u need 4gb mem, try keep mem usage under 2gb, using msi afterburner, uninstalling GeForce experience and not using to much mem, like not all settings on ultra.

Good point ! I am pretty ok with my Battlefield 4 experience on My GTX 770, but GTA5 or Shadows of Mordor are tend to consume more than 2 Gb of Vram. Am I right?

It's hard to imagine a 970 upgrade from a 770 being worthwhile if you're just doing 1080p, but if you're really interested in finding an angle to justify it to yourself, look at the power usage difference (about 80 watts), and head to an electricity cost calculator somewhere on the web and plug that in, combined with the number of hours per day you spend gaming, and the number of years you expect to keep the card, and there you have a nice little number to justify the expense.

In this case (power usage) I am totally agree with you. So should I wait for NVIDIA's next gen cards and switch to them?

Thanks I was worried about my CPU as well. It is 3 years old now. But on GTX 770 I feel fine with it.

Yep, I was trying to sell my GTX 770 for 190$ and honestly it is a hard thing to do here.

All the GTX 980 Ti chatter I have seen in indicates 6GB. June 2 is when AMD is releasing. When nVidia is releasing is up for debate.

I guess regarding to your comment I should wait till 6 GB NVIDIA cards will arrive and start saving. At least I think that there will be a huge price drop on GTX 970 since newer cards will be on the market.

I think you should get the GTX 970 because it's significantly more powerful than the gtx 770 with more Vram and uses less power.

I doubt you will find much better @ this price point until Pascal comes out...

980 ti or whatever they call it, will certainly be the better choice however it will probably be more than double the price of a 970. Good Luck!

Yes totally agree with you on the pricing side. But still I think it will be more future proof solution. Also I think that GTX 980 will be cheaper when GTX 980 TI will come out, so in the worst case I will be able to buy GTX 980 with 4Gb on board.

I agree, it will certainly be a more future resistant solution... I got a Titan X and I'm good until pascal...

I don't think the 980 will go down much because the price is already competitive...
We might see a significant price drop when pascal comes out if Nvidia wants to clear out the Maxwell stuff however nobody knows...

Are you kidding? The GTX 770 has the exact same memory bandwidth! 224gb/s! Do any of you ever care to actually know anything before you post your supposed knowledge anymore?

2) Based from that post you really don't seem to know any more. The fact they have the same memory bandwith on a different architecture means pretty much nothing.

i got the same card, I'm thinking of getting the radeon r9 390x, seems like the best option regarding it's 8gb of vram and a reasonable price of 320$ for a card released not so long ago
