Memory dual channel problem

Greetings,

I bought a new computer recently from scratch here are the specs :
Asus Z97-A
i7 4970K
2x8 Kingston HyperX fury
Gagibyte Geforce 970

This is my first time assembling a computer, everything went fine except for the RAM.
For some reason, when I put each RAM bar where it should be (A1 - B1 or A2 - B2, I read the manual about 10 times to be sure), computer does not boot. No bios check, just the red LED on the motherboard indicating a RAM problem. I had to use it without dual channel (A1 - A2).

There was a button on the motherboard near the RAM sockets which supposingly automatically configure the RAM speed or whatever but it seems to not work (it does some stuff for a minute then return to the initial red LED error).

Here are some screenshots from CPU-Z

Any clue? It may be that RAM is not compatible for dual channel, but I always thought RAM works pretty everywhere :/

Edit : btw I already replaced them with the warranty, so they are not faulty. And it is a kit.

Solution
If you get around to the CPU, take a close look in the socket, and check for any bent pins, debris or excess thermal compound that may have seeped under the CPU :) And yes you can close it by selecting a best solution or just leave it open ;)

You mean a flaw of design or a faulty product? I checked before bying and every component was supposed to be compatible.

As I said in my post, I put them in 1-2 because 1-3 did not work, that is why I created this post in the first place, my good sir.

How about 2-4? If both slots 3-4 aren't being 'seen', then it's indicative of a MC or mobo problem, try loosening the CPU cooler and then snug it back down, if it's too tight in a corner or side it can throw off the MC(memory controller) and cause problems like this

I tried 2-4, still no luck. It's really when I try dual channeling that it is angry. The CPU cooler is quite small and does not interfere with the RAM sockets. I tried one memory stick in each socket, it was always working.

Well I thought I was missing something obvious, it seems that the problem is more complicated than I expected :S.

I meant that the physical unit you got might be defective. These days, everything is compatible with everything, with some oddball and unfortunate exceptions. But I have never heard of good memory modules not working in a good motherboard, especially two different sets. My best guess is the mobo.
The read light indicating a RAM problem is a HUGE hint.

Well bad news for me if it's the case. I don't feel at all like replacing the motherboard and assembling all the stuff again :/.

My question would be ... is there such a difference to have these sticks in 1-2 rather than 1-3? It is safe, also?
If it is still working pretty well I could live with that.

Okay, could you tell me where that bloody memory controller is supposed to be, or what does it look like? I can't find that information on the Nets. Maybe I could take a picture of it to show there if it's troubling or not.
I can try to loosen it a bit indeed.

The MC is in the CPU, so the CPU has to be level and in full contact with all the pins in the socket, just loosen the 4 screws that lock the EVO down then snug them up screw tight, don't try to get as tight as you can ;)

Sticks in 1-2 are both in Channel A so you are in single channel mode, Channel B consist of slots 3-4 from CPU

I see. It is indeed possible that I failed when placing the CPU on the MOBO, it was the operation I was the more afraid to do, with the thermal paste and everything. I will try what you suggest.

I tried loosening and tightening again the screws of the Evo fan, the sticks are still not working in dual channel, sadly.

Maybe if I remove the CPU and replace it again properly it would work, I don't know. But I think for the sake of itworksokIdonttouch, I'll leave it as it is. 16 Go seem more than enough even in single channel, don't you think?

Anyway, your insights in this matter were appreciated.
Should I mark this thread as resolved or something like that?
