Hey all,

My GPU has gone bad - suddenly, during a game of Minecraft white horizontal static lines are covering the screeen, chunky blocks, etc. I disabled the GPU and the integrated graphics seem ok. So, I'm guessing I have to replace the 220.

Inside, I've got:

• Intel® Core™ i7-920 processor (2.66GHz, 1MB L2 + 8MB shared L3 cache with QPI Technology)

and the power block says Max Power 460w Max Combined 385w . So, what can I get to replace the 220 that makes sense? Something I can grab at Best Buy later. I don't have hardcore gaming needs, but I do use 3d modeling software occasionally.

This is $159, which is the right price, but would it work?
PNY - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750 2GB GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 Graphics Card
or for $219:
EVGA - GeForce GTX 960 2GB GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 Graphics Card - Black

Thanks!

Yes it will work . If its the 460W PSU then go for the GTX 750 ti. Its a great card.
And Yeah you can go with GTX 750 but its 24% slower.
Buy non OC version of GTX 750/ GTX 750 ti.
Your PSU may not be sufficient for GTX 960.

Definitely go for the GTX750, I think the GTX960 is too much for your needs and may very well have problems with that (I'm guessing) old power supply.
A cheaper upgrade would be a GT740 or R7 250, either will be a big improvement over the GT220-just make sure you go for the DDR5 (sometimes called GDDR5) equipped parts, you should be able to source either for under $100 US.

Well, I got it, and it was a tight squeeze to get it in. That thing is huge and twice the height with the 2 fans. The PNY install CD didn't work for some reason, so either Windows Update managed to find the drivers or my failed downloaded driver install attempt. But after a few restarts, it looks good.
