So I was playing battlefield 3 campaign for about an hour, and I have my q6600 overclocked to 3.0 ghz on a closed loop water cooler. I was getting 58c for the first core, 55c for second, 50c for third, and 48c for fourth... Should I try to overclock more so I can get some more performance? What is a safe temperature for the q6600? Will my gpu usage go up as I overclock more? ( I am using amd 7950 and gpu usage is at 60%)

thanks!

gpu temp: 56c

SYSTEM:
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 3.0 GHz
ASUS P5N-D
Cooler Master Seidon 120v
Asus DirectCUii 7950
4Gb DDR2 Ram @800 mhz

BF3 @ultra preset getting 45-70 fps (CPU usage at 95-100%)

Solution
There are two Q6600's:

B3 Stepping, Tcase 63C, TjMax 85C @ 105 Watts
G0 Stepping, Tcase 71C, TjMax 100C @ 95 Watts

Intel's website no longer differentiates between the wattage of these two processors, and erroneously classifies them both @ 105 Watts.

Use CPU-Z to identify your Q6600 Stepping Revision.

Many G0 Stepping Q6600's will overclock to 3.6GHz (9 x 400FSB) with adequate cooling, such as yours.

Do not exceed 1.500 Core voltage, and if you have the G0 Stepping Revision, keep it under 80C.
