Hello everybody,
I just got an new PC and thought to myself why not try Windows 8.
Now my Audioengine D1 DAC doesn't get recognised anymore (It's supposed to be plug and play, so no drivers).
I tried every single USB Port, de and re installing the driver, switching cables, I deactivated USB power management and updated all mobo drivers, but nothing helped.
Mainboard: MSI Z97S SLI Krait
CPU: I5 4690K
GPU: GALAX GTX970

Is there anything else I can do?

Yea, I already have that. I downloaded and updated all mainboard drivers.

The DAC is connected via SPDIF/Toslink to a soundcard (Terratec Aureon 5.1, mobo doesn't have a Toslink port) and for power you need to connect it via USB. At the moment I have my speakers connected to the soundcard via mini jack and it works. On my old pc the mainboard had a Toslink port and I didn't need a soundcard.

I don't think it has anything to do with the soundcard. I have my speakers connected via mini jack to the soundcard and it works. I installed the driver from the CD, don't know if thats the right one. I'm going to download the driver from their website now.

What I'm trying to determine is if you're getting any audio output on the TOS-Link connector.

Do you see a Digital Output(Optical) playback device listed in the Windows Sound applet? Is it set as the default device?

I've read the following in another forum about the Audioengine D1 24-bit DAC and Windows 8.1 not recognizing the device and the following solution was suggested:

Right-click the Start button and go into Power Options. Under the advanced settings, turn off/disable "USB Selective Suspend".

On my old build I used a longer cable and it worked. On my new one I tried both and it didn't make a difference. The usb hub would be my next step, but first I have to buy one.
