RAM stick seems to be faulty. Replacement help?

So after a long while of getting build help, and waiting for parts to come in, I got my computer physically put together. I ran into a problem when I went to plug it in. The computer would repeatedly shut down and restart, never loading up the BIOS page at all (no display). So I read into some things to begin troubleshooting and finding the problem. Basically I removed the graphics card and one of the sticks of ram. After that the computer booted up like it was supposed to. Then I decided to take that RAM stick out and replace it with the one I had taken out earlier. The computer started to restart again with the same issue as before. So I put everything back together without the second RAM stick and got Windows installed. Everything seems to be working now.

My question is about replacing the faulty RAM stick (assuming its faulty anyways). I ordered from Newegg and to be honest their return/replace policy is not really great in my opinion. It will take weeks to get replacements and I will have to return both sticks, making the computer not usable. What I was hoping to be able to do is just buy one more 4GB ram stick and slap it in there. I have read somewhere that doing this may cause compatibility issues though. This is my build. Can I get some suggestions please?

Check with NewEgg and see if you can return the RAM for a refund - and then purchase new RAM from somewhere else if you need it ASAP. Theoretically, identical specification RAM should work - but I find there are more issues than success stories with this.

While some people will say "don't mix module sizes" or "don't mix different brands", you don't have anything to worry about. I have used a 4GB Apacer and 4GB Kingston (or is it patriot?) for years running side by side without issue. I even had a 4GB and a 2GB at one time with no issue. If you have one module running faster than the other one, it is not an issue either; both will run at the speed of the slower one.

Returning this RAM to the place Newegg wants it is going to cost about $20 and take about 2 and half weeks to return and get new stuff back.

I could order this one. It has the same manufacturer and it looks like all the specs match exactly. Can anyone else confirm that this would work? Or would it be better to just pay shipping and wait for Newegg, hoping that they don't decide to write it off as not faulty and ship it back at my expense?

Getting by a few times, doesn't change that tons of other people try mixing DRAM and the sticks won't play even with packages of the same identical model, should tell you something when the manufacturers won't even guarantee mixing two packs of the same exact identical model. Browse through the forums sometime, I help people every day that have tried mixing DRAM - and failed

Tell them they sent a two stick set and 1 stick works fine the other won't work. Tell them you don't appreciate being sent faulty DRAM and ask for a RMA and a return Mailing label. If they say you have to pay, ask why you should have to pay to return faulty hardware that was sent by them. They will generally send you a pre-paid return shipping lable

With the symptoms described would you say that the RAM stick is definitely dead on arrival? I really don't want the hassle if all they are going to do is try to play me like its working. :/

I must have some bad luck to have my first build ruined by this. :(

Thank you guys for the help. I'll be trying to contact Newegg about an exchange.

I contacted Newegg and received a return shipping label with my RMA. Now all I have to do is hope they don't screw me over with the defective stick. I mean its not like I could do anything with it if it crashes my computer when plugged in. >.<
