I'm currently using only 8 GB of RAM and the pagefile.sys file size is 20.6 GB, how do I lower its size? Is it safe to delete?

Solution

Pagefile increases to meet the demands of Windows. The more you multitask the more you use RAM up, so Windows uses the pagefile to take up the slack. The more things you load, the more RAM you use, the more Windows uses pagefile. I wouldn't mess with pagefile, if your that 'needfu' of your GB space, then you need a newer HD (7200RPM 1TB at Walmart is $49 ). Otherwise you should either scale back what your doing / invest in more RAM (I had to go 16GB because of all I do 'at the same time') to support your demands.
Right click "My Computer" -> Advanced system settings -> (under performance) settings -> Click "Advanced" tab -> (under virtual memory) Click "Change"

You can now manage the pagefile for any drive from here

If your drive is currently set to system managed, I would leave it alone. You can set it to a custom size but it will reduce performance. The system will only ever reserve space it needs which means that reducing that amount will force the operating system to move things around in the page file, which is slow.
