I am trying to retrieve data from an old HDD for the first time and I am trying to find the right USB to HDD hookup that I can use with my computer so I can transfer all the data from my old SATA drive from my desktop to my new computer, but as I search the forums and marketplaces, I see a lot of conflicting reports on which USB data retrieval devices work with which internal hard drives.

The hard drive in question is a Maxtor Diamondmax Plus 9 80GB SATA/150 HDD 3.5 Series and I am looking to hook it up to a USB device and transfer all the data to my new computer.

The old hard drive was hooked up to a Dell desktop with Windows XP Home and I am going to transfer the data to across a few different computers, an Acer desktop with Windows 7 Home, a Dell laptop with Windows 7 Home and Student, and a Toshiba Satellite laptop with Windows 8.1 if it makes any difference.

Any ideas?

Hey !

If you old computer still works it would be far easier for you to just make a network drive and transfer all of your files to your other computers through your wifi ! if you need help setting this up then just ask.

Unfortunately if I could do this I would, however the HDD has been removed from the old tower for some time and the old computer tower has been scrapped for a while. I know I could always bring this to someone and have them plug it into another computer tower and see if data retrieval is possible, but I was trying to find an easier way to do it at home and trying to avoid this method.
