Changing Pictures/Downloads Location Problems.

Howdy Guys, First I'd like to thank everyone for this forum and everyone on it as I've learned so much from it.

OK, so I recently installed 8.1 on my new PC, everything has gone wonderfully until I tried to move my picture/download file locations to my main Hard drive (the main HDD instead of the SDD OS drive). When doing so, I accidentally moved both the pictures and downloads folder to "F:\" instead of "F:\Pictures" or "F:\Downloads" like I should have. The issue now is that they are both tied together, if I move the Pictures Folder to "F:\Pictures" the Download file moves there as well.

If I try and put them back to the default location, they both move to the same location (both to pictures, downloads, etc...).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

If you dont have a backup to restore then you have to manually move some files.
move back to whichever folder type has the more files, usually this is pictures. Then you can move the document location (yes I realize it will be empty) and then manually move the documents in the pictures folder over (copy, paste, verify the copy was successful, then delete the ones in pictures)

Also since it doesnt sound like you have a backup, your important, irreplaceable files (family pics, movies etc) should always have at least a second copy stored on another device (hdd,,dvd, nas...) so that when your main drive fails you dont lose them.

Thank you for your help. This is a brand new computer, just installed the operating system this morning so neither folders have anything in them.

I try and move one of the files over, but it moves the other to the same location. In other words, I can't get them to point to different locations.

Here's a picture of them, notice the pictures file is correct, but the downloads file is called "Pictures"

Now here is the location of them, (Pictures on left, Downloads on right).

And here is what happens if I try to move the download file to "F:\Downloads". They both change to that locations. (Pictures on left, Downloads on right)

Move pictures. As you said this moves Downloads.

Next ADD a location to the Downloads category (so that it ends up with pictures and downloads)
then delete the one that it shares with pictures.

I'm not 100% positive this will work but I think it will as I did something similar a couple years ago messing around with win8

Thank you for helping with this.

How do I go about adding a location? It seems like the files under "This PC" are really locked down (can't rename, can't delete, can't create a new one).
What I currently have is two folders in my documents folder called "Pictures" and "Downloads" that I am currently using. It's working OK so far, but I'm thinking I'll contact Microsoft and let them know about this glitch.

Thanks again.
