Hello guys, I recently bought a new Asus R9 280x graphics card that is giving me some black screen problems. I should also note that before this, I had a MSI R9 270x which was kind of giving me the same problems.

When I had the msi card, whenever I booted up my pc I would see the windows logo, and then the screen would turn to black. However, also sometimes when i booted up it would work fine, but I would also sometimes get the error, "amd display driver stopped responding and has recovered", while I was surfing the web. I figured it might be something wrong with how the drivers were installed so I downloaded a driver sweeper program to erase anything driver related. I re installed the drivers and the same problem was occurring. I tried some other solutions I found online but nothing seemed to have worked so I figured it was a faulty card.

Fast forward to now, I have the asus card. I installed the card into my rig and it started off working fine while it was in low resolution mode because the drivers were not installed yet. I went to the asus website, looked up my card model and started downloading the appropriate drivers. During installation it warned that the screen may flicker/go blank which is normal anyway. However, when the screen when black, it stayed black for a bit, my computer restarted(?), showed the windows logo, and then black again, the same problem I was getting with the MSI card.

I restarted a couple more times with no luck. At the point, I switched my hdmi to my motherboard graphics to be able to log on to my computer again to run the driver sweeper. After the drivers were swept again, my card started displaying, but only in the low resolution mode because the drivers are not installed.

The card I am using now is an asus EAH5750FML. For whatever reason, this card works with the AMD drivers installed without a problem.

So here is where I am at a loss. I have tried surfing the web looking for solutions but I am having no luck. Seeing as how both the msi, and now the asus card are giving me sort of the same problems, the underlying cause must lie within my computer somewhere, specifically when I try to install the graphics card drivers.

I am praying that someone might have some suggestions as to what I can do to fix this problem, its frustrating the hell out of me.
