Hi,

I am building a PC for the first time and I have done tons of research. I have finally come up with a build I believe suits my needs perfectly. The purpose of my PC will be mainly focused on gaming. I will occasionally use it for projects and schoolwork but my main goal is still gaming. I am open to recommendations on all my builds parts, but I mainly want to make sure my motherboard, operating system, and video card are all the best for my specific needs.

Intel Core i7-4790K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor

Corsair H100i 77.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler

Asus MAXIMUS VII FORMULA ATX LGA1150 Motherboard

Corsair Dominator Platinum 16GB (4 x 4GB) DDR3-1866 Memory

Samsung 850 Pro Series 512GB 2.5" Solid State Drive

EVGA GeForce GTX 980 4GB Superclocked ACX 2.0 Video Card

Cooler Master HAF 922 (Black) ATX Mid Tower Case

Corsair 750W 80+ Platinum Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply

Asus DRW-24B1ST/BLK/B/AS DVD/CD Writer

Microsoft Windows 7 Professional SP1 (OEM) (64-bit)

This totals at around $2,700 dollars if there are any recommendations to change my build, I would be willing to go as high as $3,000 dollars, thats is my limit

I appreciate any and all advice. Thank you

Psu certification between a platinum and gold is marginal at best over the course of a year, maybe $5-$10. I dont really think it would be worth paying the extra premium.

Honestly, if your willing to spend $3,000 then this build shouldn't be an issue, and should give you move performance than any other builds I've seen posted, and you could even add in another Titan later and still be under 3k.
This alone is 4k ready and if you use resolutions less than 4k you should be able to get 60fps on ultra playing pretty much anything except the most demanding games.

The build is great for a gaming pc. If you're not doing any CPU intensive multi threaded work like video encoding and virtualization then you don't need a 2011 series CPU. However that k means an unlocked cpu and it is wasted if you don't plan to over clock.

I'd recommend Windows 8 if you're playing newer games, it runs a lot better, Start Menu 8 makes it like windows 7 but with the extra performance.
Nice specs though, keep the K CPU as even if you don't choose to overclock now, you may later and it's only around £5-£10 more.
The 980 will max pretty much any game at 1080p and 1440p on a lot of games

clearly you're not going to school to study finance, right?

man, right off the bat for your FIRST build you're blowing your wad and a ton of cash just to play games. I don't get it. kids should be focusing on studying, not gaming and blowing $2k-plus on computers that go obsolete within a year. I mean, yay for pumping money into the economy, but...

also, why does the title talk about LGA2011-v3 but you make zero mention of it in your post? was that the wrong title?

And the R9 300x series for that matter too...... If you want the build NOW, do get this one. You're going to have to deal with the risk of regretting it if the new stuff is that much better.

PROTIP

Don't waste money on overpriced RAM like the Dominator Platinum series. Unless you actually plan on putting in the work to get it stable with a high overclock, ditch it and put the $50-70 savings in your pocket, or into another part of the build.

Same goes for the motherboard, $350 is a stupid high amount to spend on a motherboard that isn't even on the enthusiast chipset (x99). You can get great z97 boards for $200 or less.

Your build is over 2.5k and is pretty much wasting money. however, in this build, you get about 40-50% more performance...

Bossyfins, while I would be willing to replace some of the parts on my list with yours I believe having one higher performing video card is better than running crossfire or SLI on two. Besides that I read an article mentioning how important the PSU level certification is, so how drastic is the difference between 80+ platinum and gold certified PSU's.

@Anheanz your build sounds solid and you probably know more about computers than I do but I don't see why I would need 2 TB of storage. Plus thanks for the advice on the PSU!
