Solution
Sounds as if the rightful owner has locked the Mac using FindMyMac. It's a security measure to render stolen laptops unusable. I would be inclined to ask the person you bought it from for your money back. The other alternative is to take it to an Apple Store with proof that you are the rightful owner. They may be able to help after they have checked the serial number to see that it has not been reported as stolen.
