Hey guys tommorow I am probably gonna do my first OC I am gonna start around 4.6GHz so 100mhz x 46 with around 1.2-1.3v and then maybe even up to 4.8 but I am wondering if I have to lower my RAM speed cause linus from linustechtips says that you'll have tune down the RAM speed for stability. Is that true and by how much should please comment some settings would be helpful and some tips :)

Also how long should I run stress tests for.

Thx in advance Anthony!

1 more questiln should I lower rame frequency during the oc because see cpu stability. And 1 said I should press clr cmos cause I would rather go through bios and lower it instead of putting it into SMP mode as 1 said then back to XMP and please say meaning of xmp and smp. Thx

Solution
Start with a simple, unambitious overclock, say 4.0Ghz, then increase bit by bit, don't jump in at 4.6GHz, that's very high - your chip / rig might not be able to attain that at all.

Stress tests - I use IntelBurnTest, which is short and sweet, and in my experience so long as you don't start BCLK overclocking it will give you an accuaret indication of stability ie if it completes the test, your good to go.

Personally I always use XMP if it's available, and I wouldn't expect you to need to downclock 1600MHz RAM

But every system is different (that's the whole point of OC-ing after all) so see where you get to

Do you have skype or something so I can talk to you while I oc would be very nice. and I bought some canned air to remove the dust from the pc. Just gonna let my rams be instead of switching to xmp or smp the store said. Thx man
