I separated 1 physical HDD on my ASUS laptop into two logical drives of 500 gb each. I am unable to join these two partitions back together. I have formatted, deleted, and attempted to extend/shrink the two separate disks to no avail. On Gparted it shows like the HDD are two separate devices. Please advise.

You could use diskpart from a windows pe environment. Run disk part.exe from a command prompt and type the following. Note this will completely wipe the disk and allow a fresh install.

List disk - This will show the physical disk drives in the system if you only have 1 disk it will be disk 0.

Select disk 0 - Set focus on the first disk.

List partitions - This will show you a list of partitions on the disk. Confirm this is the disk and the partitions you expect to see.

Clean - This will completely wipe the disk of any partitions. You Will Lose All Data that has not been backed up.

You can now reinstall.

If you are looking to merge the disks without losing data then it may be possible depending on what data each partition...
