Hi all, I am having an issue where my CPU is downclocking itself to 1.4ghz and also the vcore drops to around 1V.

When this happens in GTA V my FPS goes from 75 down to around 25, but only lasts for a few seconds, and I am sure nothing is overheating. (Will post hwmonitor readings).

Specs;

FX-8350 @ 4.4ghz 1.37v-1.43v, cooled with a Hyper 212 Evo and Cooler Master thermal paste.
Asus GTX 970 Strix Oc edition
Asus M5A78L-M/USB3
8GB Mushking RAM @1800mhz 1.5v
Corsair CX 750M PSU
Corsair Carbide Spec-03
Case fans- One intake at the front, one intake at the bottom, 1 exhaust at the top left, 1 exhaust at the top middle.

Possibly, but this even happens when i return my bios settings to stock, therefore removing the overclock and never had this problem before when i first got this computer...

Okay, so if i go back to stock clocks, i should see less of this problem or hopefully none?

Less? yes, none? No. The AM3+ architecture is going places it wasn't meant to go when AMD pushed out monstrosities like the 8350 and 9590. The E editions are much more reasonable in the strain placed on the motherboards.

Mobo manufacturers continue to turn out expensive AM3+ boards because they are required for the top FX cards.

Hm... I am going to go back to stock clocks, and undervolt as much as possible and see how it goes from there... Definitely not buying another pre built computer again xD

Idea;

I have turned off 2 cores in my bios, now maybe i am getting too hopeful but i think this might reduce the TDP of this cpu and get it into the safe zone. Anyones opinion on this would be great.

The 8350 is hardly a "monstrosity". It is a 125 watt cpu that works extremely well in a decent 970 or 990 chipset board with 6+2 or 8+2 phase power that it is intended to run in.

Turn of two modules not two cores.

Update for anyone else reading this with the same problem: Turning off cores in the BIOS did jack shit for me, what ive done is rolled back to 4GHZ on my CPU and undervolted it as much as possible, and also turned Turbo off and turned on all power saving settings, and now its fine. No fps drops at all :)
