Hi i changed my old intel core 2 duo 7200 to Q6600 and performance in games are poor. I got less fps than on my old CPU and i dont know reason why :x Do i need to format my hdd and get a fresh windows or its another reason?

My computer spec actually are:
4 GB Ram, Radeon 5750 and this Q6600.

Solution
You may be getting poor performance due to thermal trottling (ie. the CPU is running too hot). To test this, download HW monitor and run it while the CPU is at idle (ie. just HW monitor open and nothing else). Then download this: Prime95 and choose CPU stress testing. Then let it run for about 10-15 mins then check the CPU temps again. Post the results of both the idle temps and load temps so we can get an idea of how hot the CPU runs. (or the easiest thing is to post a screenshotof HW monitor at idle and under load).
What motherboard do you have? Overclocking the q6600 is paramount to getting playable frame rates.
A lot of times the games you are playing only use two cores. The cpu which played games faster had higher clock speeds which is why the old cpu was faster. You may need additional cooling to overclock providing your motherboard supports it.

Hi again,
My mobo is pretty old like all components of this grandma, here it is http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3286#ov. It's Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3LR. And to @spentshells i can understand your worries, but those 200 MHz could do a such a difference? Cos my fps in games like LoL or CSGO went down from 60-80 to 10-30.

I got decent cooler, so i think i can manage to oc this Q6600. I am completly newbie in this, just rise clocks or multiplier in bios right? And thats it about overclocking? :D About reinstalling windows i didnt, but will do later today.

Have you reset BIOS settings after you changed CPU??
Also that mobo isnt good for OC.You can easy get 3Ghz with just setting FSB to 333 and set Your RAM MHZ closest to its Original speed.
Also update BIOS it brings lots of changes and fixes and system stability.

Here I am again, i am after format, didnt reset bios cos i thought its not necessery after this and did windows experience test. I know its freaking bad or smth but it gave this CPU 3,4 pts... I am a little bit worried cos this CPU is new, never used and i am lack of solutions. Now I want to install LoL and try to check fps but I am wont be suppriesd if its gonna give me same before format. :x Any ideas?

Test out the game. Did you do a restore or a fresh instal of the OS?
I see yes that is quite a low rating for that processor, but the windows performance index isn't really dependable anyhow.

As I mentioned above you will really need to overclock that cpu to have it be useful for gaming.

I did fresh install, with format whole HDD. Okay if i need to OC this CPU i will make a newbie question. I changed in BIOS as st3v30 said FSB to 333 and changed multiplier to 9 to get pretty 3.0 GHz. Computer restarted few times. But when I am checking rating in windows system it sais 2.4 GHz, I downloaded CPU-Z and watched a rly strange thing (for me) that rating of processor is jumping from 1,6 GHz to 2,4 GHz. I can imagine bcos of not doing anything by CPU but in my opinion it shouldnt look like that.

Your OC has failed since PC wont start normal.Look like your mobo cant handle OC.
Did you reset BIOS settings??
What you see that CPU frequency is going UP and DOWN is power saving option, you dont have to worry about that.
DO a BIOS reset and report to us, also if you can Update BIOS that should bring some improvements to stability.

Okay guys, I have to thank You all. Problem is solved (thats what I think). Without OC i got now better performance (about 50% better) than on old CPU. The problem was a temperature in my opinion. Now when I was back home I bought new cooler, started to change the old one and by the way put batterie from MOBO out. After all it seems to work great. So solutions are two, restarted BIOS or taking down temperature. Thank u again!

Alright, seems I was right about the thermal throttling. Anyway, glad to hear your problem is solved!! Just click pick as solution on whatever solved your question to close this thread.

Nope, wasn't the OC, since OP was getting lower performance on a Q6600 at stock speed than on a C2D 7200. His issue was that the stock C2D cooler wasn't enough to keep Core 2 Quad at safe temps, so the CPU was thermal throttling.

I think you missed what I was actually saying.

1st cs go prefers higher clock speed to more cores as they two cpu's are similar in architecture the clock speed would make sense of that.

2nd I was actually just offering some possible oc settings, I had a similar motherboard.
