I am rocking a stock cooler that came up with the box . At idle ROG says 56 C And while gaming it reaches to 80+ C

Solution

If you're using an air cooler you'd want to change the fans no matter what...

Woah buddy, a 4790k? And you're using a stock cooler? The stock cooler is to hold the temp Temporarily, it is hardly a short term deal. You need a real med-high end CPU cooler, I recommend a Noctua NH-D15 for the best cooler for your money. It's 89$.

Hope I helped :D

(DO NOT RUN THE CPU IF ITS HOT OR IT'LL DAMAGE IT! THEN ILL CrY WHEN IT FRYS :( )

if your getting 50c just sitting there then the cooler on wrong. look at the back of the mb make sure all 4 pins are out evenly and the cooler locked down. you dont need a cooler that costly the evo 212 for 30.00 works well. they also make lower profile heat sinks if you have a small case. the better coolers have back plate and screws that lock them in.

The Evo has horrible RPM compared to the Noctua NH-D15. And did you forget he has a 4790k? he needs more then a evo.. The cooler the CPU is the faster and less stuttery it is, You are wrong.

Please... learn your stuff before cursing him into wasting his money on a short term peice of crap fan.

I think people give stock coolers a bad rap, Yes after market ones are much better but the stock should be capable of keeping the temp lower than that.

do 3 things.

1. Check there is good airflow in the case and that fans are working together.. i.e sucking in air at the front, and denting it at the back.
2. Check the heatsink is free of dust.
3. Reseat the heatsink with a good thermal paste. It is most likely this has not been done well and just needs re-applied.

If you have money to spend on an after market cooler and a couple of quiet case fans then do, but i dont see the point if doing the above works for you :)

Well I checked everything on my stock cooler and everything fits perfectly still its hot .
& with the NH-D15 what kind of temp can I expect ? I would also like a cooler that would fit my red black color scheme .

This is not the fault of the cooler, much more how it is installed probably, bad thermal paste spread/application, poor airflow and made worse perhaps by higher ambient temps.

You should take the coolers off and reapply new thermal paste, using the card method and really getting a perfectly thinm even layer on. This is the most common problem with people complaining about temps.

Once this is done, ensure the fan is working properly and at the correct rpm (can be googled quickly).

Ensure your case fans are operational, mostly dust free and are providing correct airflow within the case. Depending on the case, optimal is IN the front, OUT the back/top.

Cables and components dropped in the way here can seriously raise case ambient temp and contribute to the problem. This is worth spending time on to hide cables out of sight for better airflow and the bonus of visual aesthetics. Drives can often be mounted in other parts qofthe case where they do not obstruct the front intake fan.

If all of the above is functional and optimal, you want to consider, as a precaution checking what resources are being taken from the cpu and if it is indeed idle when idle if you know what I mean. Some tasks could be occupying it and even viruses have been known to cause this problem, however unlikely it is in this case.

The Stock cooler is fine and provides a good solution for stock setting cpus, if you are overclocking you have your answer to the problem and need to step up cooling to third party solutions.

Some would recommend these for lower noise levels and enhanced cooling, however a stock cooler on a stock cpu will run totally well.

Well, if you're into aesthetics, then i would recommend you to go the liquid way..
Get the H80i or the H100i..
Nice aesthetics, also, then you dont have to worry much about the airflow in your case as far as the CPU is concerned :)

Correct me if i am wrong :) I am always willing to learn

Well I have heard stories about water leaking & that kinda scares me . I was hoping a cheap air cooler that will get the work done .Cpu intensive Games automatically crashes when cpu reach 90 C .

ummm...
Donno what to say other than this:
I am into aesthetics too and i have 2 machines both of which are running water cooling setups.. H60 and H100i
Also, many of my friends are using the same coolers and are very happy with the performance.
Dont worry about leakage as it happens 1ce in 100 cases..

At the end of the day, choose what your heart says..
Both are nice options water and air.
Water will set you back much more than air will but at the same time it will enhance the aesthetics aspect, which matters to me a lotttttttttt.. :)

I am really looking forward to H100i so what kind of temp can I expect with this cooler at IDLE and 100% LOAD ?

If you're using an air cooler you'd want to change the fans no matter what cooler you get. The cooler itself works just as well as the NH-D15.

To the OP about the h100i. I currently am running an i7 4790k and have a h100i. My CPU does run warmer then most, but my temps at idle are low 20's and under full 100% load (Using Intel Burn) i never go above 70. While playing games, Hardline with max'd everything I never hit 50. GTA 5 with max I never go above 55. But, if you go the route of the H100i make sure you can fit the radiator in your case and that there's no clearance issues.

In any situation, there's more to play with your temps then purely what cooler you have. If your case has bad airflow then that's going to play just as big of a part as the cooler you have. If your GPU is just blowing warm air into the bottom of the case and not getting exhausted that's also going to cause some issue. Also you have things like thermal paste used, and the actual temperature of the room your PC is in.

Looks like you are having good temps , my case in Cooler master 690III and h 100i might fit . With stock cooler and room temp at 24 C I get around 46 C at idle

Alright, so yeah that case has a top mount that you can use. Just be sure to check any chipset heatsink clearance. I have a MSI Gaming 5 and on my Enermax Coenus I had some clearance issues with the heatsink on the chipset. Though, with it having the holes if you have any issues you should just be abel to mount it through the holes and move it away from the heatsinks to fit.

And looking at This picture, you definitely want to make sure there'd be enough room if your board has any extra stuff on it that would interfere.

But yeah, the temps are very nice. While the idle temps are higher then I like (Had an AMD previously and it idles at about ~4) but with it having a very small ramp up window (temp has never gone above 65 while gaming) it's definitely worth the investment.

I have room for single 240mm radiator but fans on both sides wont fit

I feel its worth repeating. the stock cooler should be capable of keeping the CPU to a sefe temp. If its not doing that then you should address the issue before buyig another cooler. After all, you dont want to spend all that monet on a new cooler only to find its still running hot.

If you are thinking about buying a cooler anyway, buy the thermal paste and cleaner 1st and try re-seating the heatsink.
