I'm intending to buy Intel Core 2 Quad Q9650. The only thing i'm worried about is the RAM type. Is it DDR2 or something different?

Please help! Answers are really appreciated.

What is this PC for? It's quite ancient.

For that motherboard you need DDR2 RAM. But DDR2 is ancient and thus it will be both harder and likely more expensive, if you do find it.

So instead, you ought to upgrade your board to something newer, such that you can use DDR3 or DDR4 (coming soon) RAM.

This will allow you to equip a better CPU as well and get a better experience.

So what's your budget?

But why are you bothering with such old hardware though?

Sure it should work, but DDR3 RAM would be better, as it's easier to get, less costly and has higher frequencies.

Does require choosing other parts entirely however. I'm just not sure if you're aware that your setup is old. Even if you buy

that CPU or buy "new" DDR2 RAM.
