Currently i'm running:
Intel i5 2500K OC @ 4GhZ
8GB Ram
MSI P67A-GD53
Asus Radeon HD7870-DC2-2GD5-V2
128GB SSD & 1 TB HD

With several games i'm looking forward to (GTA V, Witcher 3, Battlefront, JustCause...), i'm planning on upgrading my PC. While i'm hoping that my CPU will survive this year of gaming, i think my GPU can't handle these games at high settings (1080p)

I read that with the upcoming release of Win10 with DX12, the AMD card could benefit way more than the Nvidia, is this true ?

About the upgrade, I would say take the R9 290X ONLY if your PSU is good quality and has enough power (700W because of your OCed CPU). If it's not the case get the GTX 970 or buy a bigger PSU.

About the DX12, no one really knows who's gonna get the best results. Both AMD and nVIdia have great DX12 performance.

About your CPU, i5-2500K OCed to 4.0 GHz it's more than enough for 2 or 3 years more at least.

I don't think thats true, i think both cards will benefit equally to DX12.

If you're playing at 1080p you definitely should buy the GTX 970. If you look at some GTA V benchmarks, you can see the GTX 970 out-performs the 290x.
