Great Specs... Terrible Performance! Help please? + Serious Sony Vegas Preview Lag!

Hey folks!
So I'm having a bit of trouble right now with my pc being EXTREMEMLY slow! My 30fps sony vegas (editing software) video won't even show me the video preview it's too laggy and overall things just take waaaaaay longer than they should considering my specs!
Here's my specs:
I7 4790k
EVGA nvidia geforce gtx 780 6gb
16gb ram
1tb hdd,500gb hdd and a 125 ssd for recording Fraps gameplay footage to.
windows 7 ultimate (have a copy of windows 8.1 but I'm putting it off because I'll have to wipe the drive)
+ extra unimportant stuff...

I got adware about 5 months ago that I've ignored because it didn't really seem to be doing much at the time like slowing down my PC. It's basically just this russian site that opens chrome..not too annoying,all I have to do is X out of it and it's gone.

Anyway if anyone knows anything I could try or if I'm doing anything wrong? note that my hdd space is quite low at about like 40gb per drive.

Clean your pc with malware bytes and anything else you have installed, remove that adware, it can be a door to let other more malicious software in.

having drives almost full can also impact performance but your best bet is getting rid of a obvious problem first, watch your bank statements for fraudulent charges.

Tried getting rid of it when I first got it with the help of the fine people of Tom's hardware

D) but for some reason it just wouldn't f**k off! :'(

I'm willing to try it again if anyone knows any good ways of getting rid of it? Malwarebytes doesn't seem to detect anything PapaWood

Spybot Search and Destroy has good results for some odd ones like that, maybe worth a try also.

that or as rgd said, wipe/reload. Best way to get that problem solved anyways. If you have backups might as well

If the malware its still on your pc, use malwarebytes, if you are getting adds, unusual search engines or something like this use adwarecleaner it normally works. If nothing of this works, tell me if its posible the %usage of your HDD... This happened to me too, i was playing CS:GO at max settings with 110-150fps and then the PC started becoming slow and more slow, etc... and after i cleaned it with this 2 antimalware programs the PC was working again perfectly

P.S. I recommend you OBS(OpenBroadcaster) for recording, you can get a really good quality, its easy to use and the files have a really low size

Holy sh*t,Spybot got rid of the seemingly undeletable adware,thanks!

Although I've seen a nice performance boost,the PC is still kind of slow

Anything else I could do for that?

could do a scandisk, defrag

Id start with that, can work wonders sometimes.

open up task manager and take a look at what is sucking down your cpu time, and also check disk reads and writes.

Sorry for the late reply.. so the disk was 12% fragmented so I defragmented it but it won't seem to go below 7% fragmented :I Defragmented it a few times now and it won't go down from 7%

Yeah I did a disk check and everything seemed fine,I didn't get any notifcations or alert telling me there was anything wrong with it.

PC is still pretty slow tho tbh

Hmm if I was in your shoes, I would backup anything important and re install windows. start over, the viruses seem gone, but the damage already done by them is to what extent? If you are OK with that, I would backup anything important, and do a nice fresh install.
