Will my new 300W GPU work in my current set up?

I have just baught a GTX 960 4GB which is a 300W card...
This is to replace an R7 250 2GB 75W Card.

Currently running with an AMD FX8320, GA-78LMT-USB3 Gigabyte motherboard and most pertinent to this discussion, a 650W PSU.

The 960 requires a 6 and 8 pin external power connector. Currently, there is only a 6 pin spare...

Firstly,

- Is my PSU sufficient?

-Secondly, if I split the available 6 pin connector into a 6 pin and 8 pin, will the new GPU be able to draw the additional power from the PSU or has my limited understanding of electricity failed me and thus do I require a new GPU?

-I'm thinking, a Semi-modular 750W?

You didn't mention the PSU brand. A 500W PSU is more than enough for you assuming full load (100% utilization on all components). You can get extra connectors over the net for almost all branded PSU. Get them instead of replacing the PSU.

You are fine, the 960 requires a 400 watt power supply and the reference card only goes up to 120 watt i believe. As long as its a quality power supply you are good to go. And which card are you getting? the reference 2gb one should only require a 6 pin connector and the reference 4gb ones are normally one 8 pin connector

Okay,

It states on the main page 'System power supply requirement: 400W(with one 6-pin & one 8-pin external power connectors)'

Upon further research I have found my PSU to be an Oh so cheap 'Ace A-650BR' which is a little disappointing...

Any clue if alternate harnesses are available for this? Or should I feed this PSU to the dogs and replace it?

If so, modest recommendation with the correct harness anyone?

The PSU is a cheapo fire hazard. Dispose of it and get one from This PSU Tier List. As your buying a new one I would suggest trying to get at least a tier 2.
