cas 8 1866 vs cas 9 1866 benchmarks

Has there been any benchmarks of same frequency different latency memory? All the latency comparisons I've seen use different frequency memory. This kind of defeats the purpose. My next build will use the i7 4790k, which supports 1600mhz, but I plan to OC it for use with 1866mhz.

Yes there have been, but the differences are not that huge. One of them is in this video, after two minutes. It's 1600 rather than 1866, but the differences will be pretty much the same or similar as for 1600.

Interesting. So assuming that the issue isn't money, would it be worth it to downgrade to cas 9 in order to support 2x8gb? My current specs require 4x4gb

Sure. You won't notice the difference at all. But generally, memory that has tighter timings can be made to run with slower timings. So a CL8 kit can run at CL9.

1866 will be fine and there should be no need to OC anything to run 1866 with your rig, simply enable XMP and select profile 1
