The GTX 970 holds its place well in the $300 range along with the R9 290. For 1080p at ultra settings that's all you need. Honestly any card above the 970/290/290x as a gaming card isn't worth what you pay for it unless you need it for utra hd resolutions like 4k, and they will come with a premium in price. It shouldn't be hard to overclock a 970 to reach stock 980 performance.

If you already have the 3770k look for a decent Z77 board. The extreme 4 you have picked is great, but at $130 it's a bit steep. I'm sure you can find boards around half the price if you look for it used on places like ebay and reddit hardwareswap if you're interested in going that route.

970 sli and the 1000W PSU are overkill. For 1080p a single 970 is all you need really. For 970 sli a 750W PSU would be plenty. The i7 isn't needed either. Your spending more money on that Asus VII Hero for the aesthetics more than anything else. You could also save money on the HDD by going with a Seagate Barracuda or WD blue.

So... assuming i already have an i7 3770k, what mother board mother board would you recommend. Also that list cuts the price down pretty far is it worth upgrading the graphics card?
