msi z97 vs asus maximus vi z87

Not overclocking ..building for gaming and making music,.. what's the difference, what should I go with... Msi z97 pc mate 90$.. or 110$ for Asus maximus vi hero z87..
First build and want to keep it gaming for a while at high settings.. any info on the difference in z97 and z87 is appreciated

The Z97 (in addition to the new chipset 97 vs 87, support frop upcoming Broadwell CPUs), has added a M.2 socket, improved the power phases and thermal mgmt, they improved on the audio codec (1150 based), stepped up the ethernet controller slightly to the newer 1218V, and improved on the BIOS for finer tuning control

I notice your very active on the posts regarding these motherboards, I just had a few questions like what's the major difference in z97 and z87
..I know you know your stuff, and I'm a layman...if you can dumb it down... Thanks for your help tradesman1.. I'm deff thinking I'm getting the hero vi z87

... I'm so confused right now .. all that said to me was gibberish... Well..I did get the z97 is better... Then why get the hero as you said before?

Great mobo at a great price, I'm still runing my Z87 and will into the future, I built the Z97 to replace my older Ivy Bridge Z77 (1155 socket), it will keep you happy for a few years, a comparable Z97 will run you $170 or so, with the Z87 you can put the difference into other components like the GPU, DRAM, etc
