Setting up a 10 metre USB connection between all devices and PC ?

Long story short, my doc has asked me to stay away from my computer if possible (i keep having sinus infections) and so I am trying to move my desktop to a different room.

The biggest issue are the usb devices, I use the following :

Scarlett2i2 Sound interface using 48 phantom power for microphone and headphones plugged in
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Focusrite-Scarlett-2i2-Computer-Interface/dp/B005OZE9SA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1429700834&sr=8-1&keywords=scarlet+2i2

Zowie FK mouse I think runs USB 3.0 ?

MX cherry 3800 which I think runs on usb 2.0 but im uncertain
http://deskthority.net/review-f45/cherry-g80-3800-mx-board-2-0-t2256.html

From my readings so far, a powered USB hub seems to be the way to go here.
However, there are several points which I am very uncertain and concerned about :

1. There seems to be a max transmission length of 5 metres for usb 2.0.
If my devices are2.0. can they still take advantage of the USB 3.0 of a 3.0 USB hub and thereby enable me a 10 metres USB connection between devices and desktop ?

2. The scarlett is a sound interface which uses 48v to power my XLR microphone, will a powered USB Hub be able to power the scarlett via USB and have all the other devices functioning ?

3. Am I looking, with a 10 metres USB connection via a powered USB hub, at :
A. Sound distortion via the sound interface
and
B. delay and lags on my input devices - mouse and keyboard ?

If this is not the way to accomplish this, what other solution could I aim for ?
Can anybody recommend a powered USB HUB ?

Thank you for reading and helping :)

Hi
I have done something very similar and have the PC in one room with monitor and peripherals in another.
I used a 15m active usb extender cable and then put a powered USB hub on the end.
The powered hub has the same output power as a normal USB port.
There are no delays or lags, can't comment about the audio but since it's digital I would think it will be fine.

The sinus problems are due to dust being kicked around by your computer?

Anyway, there's wireless USB hubs which could probably help you out.
And there's USB extenders that you may want to look into, by changing to a CAT cable the max length should increase till about 100m
For the delay thing I'd go with the wired option any day. The distorsion should not be an issue through either.

The scarlett thing . . . does it get all its power over the USB?
I assume it currently powers your 48V mic, but USB normally provides 5V, so there must be a converter in there. If a USB port powers it now, a powered hub should do it, I suppose. But there's a lot of guesswork involved in that.

I'm sure someone with a more detailed audio background can help you further on that one.

the 10m active extension cables im finding for usb 3.0 are quite pricey, do you know if its possible to use 2 x 5metre extension cables connected together ?

Also, does the USB cable length of the USB HUB count towards the limit ?

This is the cheapest 10m active extension i could find

A mix of dust and electro smog. It does crop up more when i mat my pc than any other time.

yeah the scarlett is all powered via the usb, certainly going for a powered us hub, thanks.

im currently looking at this hub

Two 5m active cables should work but due to the extra connections you may lose a very small amount of speed.
The cable lengths after the active extensions do add to the limit but the extensions themselves do not .
Oh and by the way the USB 3 specification recomends a maximum cable length of 3m to achieve full speed.

so, I was ready to order everything, when it came to my mind that the displayport cable for my screen might suffer signal loss too, well turns out :

Display Port

Because DisplayPort was so ahead of its time in terms of bandwidth and resolution capability when it was launched, strict limits were set on what cable lengths could be certified. This decision limited confusion in the market place, but set the maximum limit for a certified DisplayPort cable at 5 metres.
See our longest DisplayPort cable here!

Using couplers to join two certified DisplayPort cables together for a run longer than 5 metres will result in loss of signal. There is currently no workaround for this length limit.

blast it :-/

Hey,

even though this is a fairly old thread, I just wanted to share my experience.

I'm currently running an 7+ meters long connection between my machine and my devices.
These are my mouse Logitech G502, Keyboard G710+ and my Interface Behringer UMC22, powering a electret condenser mic with phantom power.
I purchased a 5m active USB extension cable and a powered USB Hub; cable length 1m. Cable length of my peripherals vary between 1 and 2m.
It's all running fine, even without the power adapter plugged into the outlet.
I also bought the same stuff a second time, but on USB 3.0 for my streaming PC. Everything running fine aswell, doesn't necessarily need the power adaper either.
Monitor wise I'm running a 7,5m DVI dual-link cable to transmit my games at 1080p120. (haven't tried 144 because I dont care)
I have to admit that this is not the first cable I bought; the first one came from Amazon, was 11€, didn't work, gave me many green pixels.
The second one I bought from Mindfactory, called inLine DVI-D dual-link and was priced at 21€. Weird thing is, the Amazon cable was tripple-shielded, the inLine one was "only" dual-shielded. I don't know if that's a bad thing or not. :p
My monitor doesn't support HDMI 2.0, that's why I dont simply run an HDMI cable, as this wouldn't be a problem at all; max recommended cable length is 15m. :)
