I'm upgrading my current system (as described in the subject) from 6gb of ram (3x2gb) to 18gb of ram (3x4gb + 3x2gb). Unfortunately I was unable to find the exact same model ram, to pair with the old, but I got fairly close. They are both DDR3-1600, the only difference is the timings. The new set is at 9-9-9-24, and I'll have to raise it to 9-9-9-27 to match the old. I may also have to nudge up the QPI voltage on the motherboard a bit for stability with all 6 ram slots filled.

My question: I know Microsoft handicapped Windows 7 Home Premium to only be able to address 16gb of memory. With my having 18gb installed, how will it address the 16gb of it? Will it it allocate 5.33GB per channel (5.33gb X 3= 15.99gb), or will it just ignore the final installed ram module and I'll have channels 1 & 2 with 6gb and channel 3 with 4gb (6gb + 6gb + 4gb= 16gb)?

As mentioned above, I do have a complete triple channel kit. I have two. It's a major consideration for me question

I can't see putting out the extra money for pro to be able to utilize hardware I've already paid for when a free upgrade to Windows 10 is just months away.

Yes.

Why? I want to install both. I know how the OS will react to each kit individually. It will address all (6gb, or 12gb) of it , as neither kit individually will exceed the 16gb cap. Hence the point of the only question that I've asked: "With my having 18gb installed, how will it address the 16gb of it? Will it it allocate 5.33GB per channel (5.33gb X 3= 15.99gb), or will it just ignore the final installed ram module and I'll have channels 1 & 2 with 6gb and channel 3 with 4gb (6gb + 6gb + 4gb= 16gb)? "

Both kits will work fine. I've added more ram to systems before. So long as I adjust the timings and speed and voltages to something both kits can handle. And in this case it'll be just the timings I'll have to loosen up (just barely at that: from 9-9-9-24 up to 9-9-9-27). Which once again: A, I've already addressed and B, Is in no way relevant to the question of how the OS will address the available 18gb of memory to make use of it's imposed 16gb cap .

On the first attempt: http://valid.x86.fr/enn45b
Now to see where I over clock to.

Anyone know the answer to my original question: Which of my 18gb is Windows 7 Home Premium Addressing in its 16gb allotment? Is it addressing the first 5.33gb in each channel, or going slot by slot and giving me channels 1 & 2 at 6gb and channel 3 at 4gb?

Thank you,
