Hi!

I am currently looking to upgrade my current computer, or build an entirely new one.
These are my current specs:
CPU: i7 2600k
GPU: GTX 670 2gb oc
RAM: 2x8 gb Corsair 1600mz
Power supply: Antec 650 watt
Moniters: Samsung 4k moniter and an extra normal 1060p moniter.

I am planning on buying a GeForce GTX 970 on friday. And later on an extra so i can run it in SLI

Anyways, i have seen this nice motherboard (MSI X99S SLI PLUS - ATX LGA2011-v3) and i am thinking of building a computer from that being the starting point. Whichs means the newest CPU's and DDR4 ram etc.

It doesnt have to be build from that, but it seems like a nice leap into the newer generation of hardware.

My current budget is about 1400 USD, and i am most likely to put a couple of hundred more dollars into it.

Anyways, thanks for reading, and i hope i can get some suggestions.

So, if you get the 970 you'll be set for a GPU. The processor is where you'll run into issues. If you plan on using a 4k monitor for game development it will be very taxing on your system. I'd recommend at the minimum a 3770k. Game development isn't extremely resource demanding so you don't exactly need a super high end computer. I'd also recommend picking up a SSD it can speed up the process of everything.

Usually for production software and 3D modeling tools you should get a powerful cpu. Imo your current i7 is capable enough for the intended use but if you have the money and the need to build a new system you are on the right path going for the x99 chipset to get the feel of an upgrade get a six core cpu like the i7-5930K and as much ram as you can fit, the ssd will boost startup times for OS and the most used applications. For the software you listed above i wouldn't recommend a sli configuration as most of the software does not support it, you should google a bit about sli configurations for 3D tools.

Like i said the system you have now is more than capable for game development and 3D production, what you will need in that environment is lots of cores and per core speed, large ram wouldn't recommend anything less than 16Gb, the ssd is nice for start up and fast loading of the apps.
