So I'm looking at getting a new monitor. I'm currently using a MSI GTX 760. I've been debating to myself on saving a little extra cash, and getting a 1440p monitor so I don't have to do it later on down the line (As monitors seem to be the most future proof component.). However, I want optimal gaming performance and I'm not sure if it's even going to be worth getting a 1440p monitor and not being able to play on it anyway. Is a GTX 760 capable of playing games on High/ultra at 1440p at 50-60fps, or is it just not worth it?

Solution
Not worth it with the GTX 760. It's meant for 1080p at highish settings.

1440p will be cheaper in the future so it would not be useful to buy one right now as your GPU wouldn't do well with it.
I agree with RCFProd. You need a more powerful GPU with more VRAM to game happily at 1440p. You currently need a R9 290X or better GPU to game at 1440P and get 50-60FPS on most games. Of course it will depend on the game itself as some are better optimized but it is best to stick with 1080p for now and then wait till the next gen of GPUs comes out to move to 1440p.
