So my computer tends to freeze after idling and now at random. Sound doesn't seem to get stuck in repeat or anything, screen is perfectly frozen. The system doesn't respond to power button press, so I have to hold it to cut power. I had this problem before and after I disabled some features of my AV software, save for the firewall, it disappeared for a while and now it's back.

My system consists of: Windows 7,
Asus GTX 780 Poseidon (air or water cooling allowed, on air, not overclocked),
Intel i7-4790K (on air, not overclocked),
Asus VII Hero motherboard,
Crucial M550 512GB SSD(houses the OS),
Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB additional hard drive.
Corsair Vengeance Pro (2x8GB) DDR3 1866Mhz RAM,
Corsair RM750

I have already, and these were solutions to other peoples problems:

  • ■ deleted Intel Rapid Storage Technology,
    ■ disabled power saving with respect to the internet connector; or whatever it was,
    ■ ran sfc /scannow (the only solution Microsoft's answer page knows about),
    ■ chkdsk,
    ■ checked memory with some software,
    ■ checked temperatures (80 deg. Celsius max CPU at 100% load, GPU nominal at 100% load)
I did have high temperatures before due to a known problem with the motherboard, but I adjusted my settings using Intel XTU.
    ■ disabled AV, except firewall.
    ■ checked Event Viewer, (this led to me disabling AV), now it shows no errors before freezing, only the errors associated with unexpected shutdown.

The freezing is total and fairly consistent. One morning, having forgotten to shut down the computer, I woke up to find the clock stuck at 12:24AM (00:24). My case also has dust filtering and the insides are fairly clean.

Edit: It didn't seem to happen when my computer was locked, though I have only tried this once.
