So I have a Gateway MD7333u laptop. The specs are 2.0Ghz Dual Core Intel Pentium, Intel HD Graphics, and 4gb ram. The computer says that it is connected to "local and internet" , but when I try to access a webpage on either chrome or IE, it says "cannot display the webpage" . I tried using diagnostic commands such as "ping 127.0.0.1" , "ping www.wikihow.com" and "ipconfig". I also tried "ipconfig /flushdns" , "ipconfig /registerdns" , "ipconfig /release", "ipconfig /winsock reset" , and then restarted the computer. I recently installed a large amount of updates, i don't know if it is relevant. The only thing that looked out of the ordinary from these commands was "ping www.wikihow.com" . It showed "request timed out" . I think that means a DNS look up error? Any and all help is appreciated, thank you.

Hey buddy, lets try a couple thing real quick. Run ipconfig /all this should show all of your connectivity. This will also give you your default gateway and dns server etc.. Now, go to your internet icon on lower right of screen, right click, go to open network and sharing, go to where it says connections and left click on the blue text then click properties the click on ipv4 then click on properties then set to obtain ip address automatically. if this fails try to submit a picture of what the screen said at ipconfig /all

So I went to the network and sharing center and followed the steps, but it was already set to do that. So here is the screenshot

Hey buddy, it's been a couple days I thought you had this. Holy cow! you got more tunnels then a new york subway, what the heck you got going on this network? What we need to see is not there. I need to see your IP address, subnet mask, default gateway. But if you did that it would be like putting your home phone number out there!! Ok, picture a bit small here, on the right side picture (connection page) click on properties, then click on ipv4, then click on properties again. this will bring you to a page that has what we need. If a radio button is set to "obtain ip address automatically" we can look elsewhere, if an address is put in there (192.168.?.? or so) and a the radio button is set to "use this address" , set to "get automatically". if all this is good, we need to ping the router, a default gateway of 127.?.? means we are not getting were we need to go. Do you have access to the router (get into)?

The above is good already. I'm using my phone's data as my internet connection, but I have connected it to other internet and it's doing the same thing. On this other internet, I do not have access to the router, unfortunately.

I'm afraid we may not be on the same page here, my friend. I know it might be a bit frustrating, but you are gonna have to break it down, as to what you are doing. Are you trying to use your phone as a hotspot? are you trying to connect your phone now to this internet? Is the gateway set up and going (kind of what I am gathering from your last post)? Have we gone from a wired connection on the gateway to now trying for wireless through phone (phone as a hotspot)? Just a quick breakdown, and we can most likely get you going if all the proper protocols exist. This is usually not a big deal, so don't give up hope. Need details though.

Originally, I had been using the laptop's wifi to connect to the internet, and this is when the problem presented itself. Then to see if the wifi itself was the problem, I turned to using a USB tether with my phone for its data. This had no change on the issue. The program for the usb tether has worked on all other computers I have tried it on, so no reason to suspect there is an error there. I would prefer to be using the laptops wifi though.

OK, so am I to assume this laptop had connected to the network at one time? I do not know what "the problem" is or what "when it started" means. Imagine, I have no history, short of you cant connect to network on wifi. That is it. I do not know what "when the problem started" means, What problem? Did something get changed? Did you change a configuration? Change a router? Trying to connect to a new network? Did it work, then stop? Who has access to router? Is this a company internet? what is your result of ipconfig? Could you connect using ethernet cable? These are the questions that need to be answered.

I'm sorry, I don't do this very often. This laptop was working just fine up until recently. Nothing has changed at all, no changed configuration, router, or new network. The problem is that one day, out of the blue, when I tried to get onto the internet, both IE and chrome just said "cannot display the webpage". It has not worked since. The wifi just an open wifi around my area, I don't know who has access to the router. But I don't think that the wifi is the problem because I have tried to use my phones data instead. literally the only thing that has been done to the computer is updates, and it was still working after those. I don't know if I can connect using an ethernet cable, I don't have one available. And regarding the results of the ipconfig, I thought I already posted a screenshot? I think it might be just a bad Operating system, but I would really rather not reinstall it if I can avoid it.
