How to make my 650 Ti the primary graphics device instead of my APU?

Im running an A8-5500 APU, and have just gotten my new GTX 650Ti. Because my APU has graphics already built into the CPU, how do i make it that the 650 Ti becomes my primary display device for games, videos etc. rather than my APU's graphics?

You have to go onto your bios and switch primary graphics from on board to PCIe.

Scratch that. Just connect your display to the graphics card instead of the motherboard.

I figured he had already connected it but it hadn't automatically switched to primary

If you have a discrete graphics card installed, your display *SHOULD* be connected to it. Otherwise, it's not being used at all.
