The Western Digital external Hard disk drive of 2TB capacity after being connected to the PC/Laptop does show a "Local Disk (I)" but if i try opening it it shows an error message. the image of the disk management is as shown in the link below;

The disk management shows the disk being a healthy partition. I used the Ontrack EasyRecovery Professional (Trial version) which showed the files being all intact but still inaccessible normally.

How can i ensure the hard disk drive works normally so that i can save the data and format it for future use.

Welcome to the community, Mohammed Shahid!

I'm so sorry to see you struggle with the WD My Book external drive. :( Unfortunately, from the looks of it, it seems like you are dealing with a corrupted file system (This is why the drive appears as RAW).
First, I'd recommend to test the drive using Data LifeGuard Diagnostics utility, it will let us know what is the drive's health and SMART status. Make sure you run the QUICK and the EXTENDED test and here's a link to the tool itself: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=dPpQKa

If you want to make it usable again, you'd need to reformat it! HOWEVER, this would erase your data.

As it is detected as RAW since you didn't have any partitiions there...
Do right click on it and select create partition and proceed further to recognize your hdd in my computer and then you can access it..

If you wish to get it back, I recommend contacting a professional data recovery company. You can take a look at WD's Data Recovery partners here: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=Nopyqf

Or you can attempt data recovery at your own risk using a third-party software. Here are a couple of threads with suggestions:

http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/291895-32-best-data-recovery-software

Once you get your data back, you can re-format it through Disk Management in NTFS and use it as you wish. Though, I recommend to do regular backups in the future and have at least 2 copies of all your data in different locations. This is the best way to avoid such headaches in the future.

Keep me posted with the troubleshooting! :)
