Hi !

I am building my first custom gaming PC in a month or so and I need your help choosing its components.

From searching on Google , reading threads here in the forum and watching lots of videos on YouTube , I made this list :

1.CPU : Intel Core i7-4790K or Intel Core i5-4690K
2.GPU : ASUS STRIX GTX 970
3.Mobo : ASUS Z97I-PLUS
4.Memory : Kingston HyperX Fury 8GB
5.Storage : Western Digital Blue 1TB
6.PSU : XFX TS 550W
7.Case : Corsair Graphite Series 380T

Yes , I don't have a SSD because I don't need to ! I'VE been using hard drivers for 14 years (since I was born) and all my friends and all the people and gamers (though there are few) are using hard drivers !

But I also ran into some questions and I thought of no community than the really awesome Tom's Hardware community :

1.CPU : Do I have to get an i7-4790K ? Or just go with the i5-4690K ?
I'll be playing latest games @ 1080P @ 30FPS
I'll be programming using Visual Studio
I'll be using CryENGINE , Unreal Engine and Unity
I'll be doing (some) 3D modeling using 3Ds Max and/or Maya
I won't be doing rendering or maybe just a little
I'll be recording gameplays but since ShadowPlay uses the GPU , this point isn't important at all
Also , I won't be upgrading until 2 years or so and we see the advancements in games (Far Cry requires a quad-core CPU to run) but I also know that hyper-threading won't give me extra cores

2.Mobo : Is the ASUS Z97I-PLUS a good buy ? Or should I save a little and get the Maximus VII ? Can you tell me any good Mini-ITX mobo at that price range ?

3.Is the XFX TS 550W a reliable power supply ?

4.For people living outside the United States : Can I get an ASUS product from outside the country I live and then it becomes illegible for warranty in my country ? If it's DOA or something like that can I replace it from ASUS branch in my country ?

Thanks very very very very very much for reading my very long thread
Bye

I'd get a 250gb, or even a 500 if your budget allows. You will primarily put windows on it, but always have some space for long loading games...
Dude please, if you can spend $1k on a gaming rig you can spend $65 on a 120gb SSD! Windows 8 takes up 90 seconds to shutdown on a HDD, it's just a few seconds on an SSD.

The i5 is fine, no need to go i7. The mobo if fine too, the xfx psu is great, it'll be a fantastic rig once you add the ssd ;) what other questions were there?

Thanks very much for the fast respone.

I'll get an SSD then.

Sorry but I have three more questions :
1.Corsair Force LS , Kingston SSDNow V300 or Samsung 850 EVO Series ?
2.Is 120GB Enough ?
3.Will I install just Windows on the SSD ?

Thanks again

I'd get a 250gb, or even a 500 if your budget allows. You will primarily put windows on it, but always have some space for long loading games. Titanfall is on my ssd, and it loads faster and preforms better. same with TF2, NFS rivals, and flight sim X. Also, samsung is the best, but you want to look at the actual read and write speeds. For read and write, you should get a 550-600 mb/s speed. Those are the best.
