so ive just received my new laptop.

super powerful intel i7 5500u 8gb of 1600 ram and a geforce 840m gpu

but ive gone to the screen resolution settings in windows to come across that it is using the integrated intel gaphics....

how can i set the system to the 840m instead of intel graphics?

is it as simpla as uninstalling the graphics drivers for intel or?

i must be missing something...

Solution
You don't uninstall anything.

In Windows itself (ie normal Windows tasks) the Intel graphics chip is used by default since there's no need for the more powerful Geforce chip, it would just be overkill and all it would do is run your battery down faster.

Your laptop switches to the Geforce chip automatically when running games or when running apps which require extra graphics power, then switches back to the Intel chip when performing normal Windows tasks.

Additionally, you can assign the Geforce chip to a specific game or app by opening the Nvidia Control Panel in Windows Control Panel, or by right-clicking that game or app shortcut and selecting which GPU to use from the Nvidia sub-menu.
