Should I wait for the next AMD or Nvidia GPU?

So I plan on upgrading my pc and I would rather buy the next gpu that comes out if it is affordable like under $600. Thing is though is that should I wait for Nividia's gpu or AMD? I been hearing rumors that the next AMD gpu may be released this summer but at the same time, I was thinking of waiting for Nvidia because they seem to receive more support with updates and optimization for games but with AMD they do seem to be a bit more affordable. I would rather not buy a gtx 970 or 980 because they are already about 7 months old and I know that they will eventually release a stronger gpu sometime this year that is hopefully under $600 at most.

The current gpu I have now is an AMD radeon 6950 2GB. I only plan on gaming at 1080p currently and I don't see myself playing at a resolution any higher than that for a while.

I just bought a i5-4690K cpu and that should last me a long while.

I can hold off on buying a gpu until late this year if possible so waiting is fine.

Wait until June when AMD releases its new GPUs, then you can make your choice.

About the nVidia new GPU, the one that is coming will be between the GTX Titan X and the GTX 980, so don't expect it at the $600 price range, it'll be $800 at least.

It is really up to you. If you are in no hurry to upgrade, then I would suggest waiting for both. Also, waiting will let you see if the AMD R9 3xx series will be a let down or not compared to the GPUs in the market already, the same can be said with Nvidia. On the other hand, Nvidia is also releasing a new GPU soon, the Pascal architecture.

The R9 3xx is said to be released sometime this year and the Nvidia Pascal around early 2016 to mid 2016.

So I would advise waiting for the R9 3xx series, then the Nvidia Pascal and compare the performance between the two then decide for yourself which one will be better for you.

At 1080p I would strongly recommend you don't get anything above a GTX 970. I have 2 1080p monitors and a 4k monitor, using 2 GTX 970s. I used to use 1 970 on my 4k monitor but it wasn't able to keep up at 4k. 1 970 on 1 1080p monitor can max most any current gen game at 60 fps+.

As mentioned Pascal is due to be released in 2016.

So that would be some waiting. So if it's Nvidia you're going for then fine wait and see if the AMD release lowers prices somewhat if you want too but no you won't get a new range real-soon-now from them.

Here in Sweden GTX 970 is more expensive now than at release due to crashing SEK and soaring USD.
