my printer takes a long time to start printing.

If you let us know what you have hooked up to it then we may be able to say what is causing it. Did you try turning the printer off and back on? Try printing from several sources?
If it's connected to a router, that is very likely the cause, every home router I tried with a printer port was very slow.
