Two options for a new system build, need advice

Hey I am upgrading (essentially replacing) the PC in my sig. with a new CPU, mobo and GPU. The two options I currently have are the following:

FX-8320 (or 8350)
R9 290

OR

i5-4690k
r9 280x

Both build cost exactly the same. I have read a lot recently about how AMD power consumption is not nearly as bad as people make it out to be so...with gaming and general media, photography etc use in mind, which build is preferable?

only real big benefit of the 4690k is ocing.. Performance wise the i5 4460 and 469k are almost identical. Maybe a 5% performance drop or less...


290 <970
Much better than 290 as i7 said because of thermals and efficiency. But it is also a lot stronger than it. The 970 is currently the best price to performance gpu on the market.
