Neither works.. I think the HDD is bad but it's the 2nd one... anything g else that could be the prib.. I bread boarded the comp and everything points to the Hdd even after CMOS and bios to default.... Any help is appreciated.. Specs are gigabyte z77ds3h motherboard,4 gig balistix and 4 gig vengeance ram... Wd1003fzex HD and ultra PC case...

To check if HDD is faulty, test it with drive diagnostic software which is on a bootable CD (you have to make said CD yourself).

For WD HDD, download CD image via the link on this page (direct download):
http://www.smartestcomputing.us.com/topic/63494-looking-for-western-digital-data-lifeguard-iso/

Use IMGBurn to create the CD from the CD image file: filehippo.com/en/download_imgburn

Then boot your PC from it.

For other brands, download Drive Fitness TestCD image instead:
http://www.hgst.com/support/downloads/legacy-downloads#DFT

For either testing tool, use the Long/Extended test.
