Can I add a graphics card to my HP Pavilion 500?

I'm relatively new to this beautiful world of PC gaming, so I apologize for my uncertainty but I was wondering if I could add a good graphics card to my pre-built computer? It's currently running a MS-7778 (JasmineR) motherboard with an AMD A8-5500 and it supports PCI Express x16 cards but I'm looking for an expert opinion, what card should/could I get? Other than getting a higher power supply, is there anything else to note when putting in a new graphics card?

I want to play Killing Floor 2 at a higher resolution, it runs well with relatively low settings but it still looks good, do you think it would run Mortal Kombat X any good with 750?

APUs (your A8) are for general PC users for low end, low power, low demands, that are /not/ made for gaming and will choke any optional GPUs you put in. Any Gaming GPU demands high power, a off the shelf PC has low power PSU, so in addition to the over $300 for a decent PC Gaming GPU you need to include the price of a PSU to power it.

In honesty you need to spend $700+ for a PC to play "new to this beautiful world of PC gaming" as that is what it costs for the hardware to make it work like that. PC Gaming is expensive if you can't afford to replace your system (you need to replace CPU, the GPU, and that means PSU as well) then stick with a PS4, for only $200-400 you can play GTAV 1080P High @30FPS and many other titles at 60FPS plus you get free BluRayPlayer (3D!!), FREE Wireless Controller, FREE Gamer's Headset that is $200 alone you have to add on to any upgrade costs you would be considering when replacing your PC as well.

Care to check for yourself? Simply go to www.canIrunit.com and select the game and it will tell you how your computer stacks up.
REMEMBER: MINIMUM Means playing 1024x768 Low graphics and getting AT LEAST 15FPS
RECOMMENDED: Is the true 'gamer's experiance' as 'I saw on youtube'.

I appreciate the feedback, Tom! You seem very knowledgeable! I only really care about Killing Floor 2 to be honest, and I don't mind buying a graphics card because I already have 650w psu on the side. I'm already saving up to build my own computer but in the mean time, I would love to play Killing Floor 2 in at least 720p with High settings, what would you recommend for a video card? Cheers!

Whoops! It's actually a Corsair CX 750w. Is there any other ones you recommend? I understand it's very limiting but I only plan on playing KF2. Thanks for the feedback guys!

The CX 750 is not particularly suited for a high-performance system. It is more of a 'min-van' PSU rather than the 'racing car' PSU you really need.

Any other PSUs or GPUs?

For GPU, you need to spend as much as you can afford and a bit more. If you plan to build a new computer, then get the best you can. It may not work to its fullest in your current system, but will do well when you upgrade.

This might sound like a lot to ask for, but what specs would you recommend to buy with $900? That's my budget at the moment, do you think I should sell my 750watt for something else? I plan on building my computer by the end of this year and I feel I'm gonna get the GTX 750i to hold me off until then so I can play KF2. Cheers!

If that is your plan, I would not make that choice. The GTX750 ti has no real place in your new system, you will need a better GPU.

I just need to get things straight.

1. You have you HP and the Corsair 750W PSU.
2. You want a better GPU for your existing HP and you are prepared to put your 750W PSU in it so you have enough power.
3. At the end of the year, you would like to build a $900-ish new system.
