I found an old hard dated 2007 in a clients computer. Its running slow, i think thats the cause. The hdd has 36 hours on it. But its 8 years old.Is it dieing?

if the bearings are lubed like on mechanical watches, the best lubricants are dried out in 7-8 years -
if you can get to the bearings with a syringe with some thin oil, and i mean thin as water, and get a small small drop of a thin synthetic oil into the bearing, it's worth a shot

i've saved 4 old electric motors, (one was a $400 furnace blower motor) that way

Well, there are a few things to consider with an old hard drive like that. Spindle speed is one, corrupt discs can lead to a slow drive. The interface can be slow. I'd use something like HD Tune Pro to check it. That's just my favorite program to check a HDD. You can also use Crystal Disk Info, to get the smart information off of it, and Crystal Mark Test to see how fast it's actually running at. A drive with that low of hours should be good to go for a while, but at that age I can't see it being a very large disk, or very fast. Even if it was when it came out, things have changed so much in the last decade that against a newer HDD it'll probably lag noticeably behind.

It's an 8 year old HDD.
Whether it is dieing right now or not...if you put it back into everyday use it will surely die soon.

Old, small, slow...$50 will replace it with a newer, faster, larger one.
