Hi all,

I had an i3 processor and today I got my new i7 3770K. After switching it, I can't make my PC boot, all I get is a black screen. My motherboard is a Biostar H77MU3, and I already updated the BIOS. CPU should be compatible with motherboard, so I don't know what's the issue... My RAM is 1600 speed, which is compatible with this i7 too. I'm getting out of ideas. Any help? Thanks in advance

Solution
Make sure the CPU power cable is [also] plugged in. You may need to remove the new CPU and check for displaced LGA pads. If any are bent, they can be gently prodded back into place using a pin or sewing needle; a jeweler's loupe will make this task a lot easier.

Check to make sure that all cables are firmly seated in their proper places. I think that the problem may be that the motherboard isn't supplying enough power to the CPU. There's only one 4 pin connector, so i think that may be the problem.
I don't know that much about it, so someone correct me if I'm wrong.

i7 3770K appears in the list of supported CPUs in the official website: http://www.biostar.com.tw/app/en/mb/introduction.php?S_ID=588#cpu

Bios revision is not specified, but there are 2 BIOS updates available for download: H77AR425.BSS (which I presume to be the newest) and H77AR224.BSS. Currently I have AR425, should I try with the other one, AR224?

Thanks guys

EDIT: So I already tried with the 224 version of the BIOS, and tried to boot with the i7. When I turned the PC ON, it turned off automatically after 1-2 seconds, it turned on again automatically to turn off and on again, this time it stayed ON but no answer - only the black screen. I heard some Hard drive read too, after a minute or so. I'm again with the i3 here...

Hi

After fitting i7
But before switching on
Reset CMOS using jumper (as described in user guide)
This should make motherboard re detect CPU at power on

Remove hard drive, graphics card (use integrated gpt via rear panel connector)

Is the I7 a new Intel retail boxed one or a oem version without a Intel heat sink ?

Mike Barnes

So I just did what you told me, Mike Barnes, and I still get black screen and no signal to the monitor. I also tried putting the CMOS battery and turning on without it, but still nothing... I think it would be weird that the processor came "broken" because it looked new and it has no burning signals or anything simillar at all...

Thanks everyone

I made some progress! I actually made the i7 to work, I unplugged the battery from the motherboard for 1h+ and unplugged my GPU (It's and AMD Sapphire HD7750 1Gb DDR5). Now system boots, and works fine if I use the VGA from my monitor to the mainboard graphics. I believed the problem was solved so I turned off the computer, plugged the GPU back and plugged my 2 monitors to it, but PC wasn't booting anymore - black screen, monitor not getting info. So I'm now using 1 single monitor 1024 x 768 to my mainboard graphics, otherwise PC won't boot. What could be the issue? Thanks guys I feel im gonna make it!
