Hello, So I have ran into a problem of sorts. I want to get my computer ready for The Witcher 3. I

currently have a EVGA GTX 780 TI SC 3B, but I am afraid it will not be able to run W3 maxed out

at 60 fps as it currently will not run GTA 5 totally maxed out because it lacks the Vram. I have

looked at benchmarks which I know aren't always the most accurate thing

to go by, and noticed not a big difference in performance between the GTX 980 and the 780 TI in

alot of cases. I have seen its usually between 3 to 4 fps difference in favor of the 980. I thought

well I should SLI my 780 TI but the problem is my card is out of stock or $900+. I am at a

loss on what to do. Can I match it with the Asus 780 TI that is $574 and will it mess with my

EVGA one since its Asus? Other option is I could I $1200 to get 980 SLI? Any suggestions from

people with a better idea on this would be great, because I am at a loss. Before anyone says get

two 970's I have thought of that but I feel like I would lose a decent about of FPS on games that

dont support SLI right?

When you SLI graphics cards the vram's do not add. Each card has to have it's own copy of the everything. So 2 4gb gtx 980's still only have 4gb of VRAM.
So your only options are things like the r9 290x 8gb, or the Titan.

My advice is to wait, new cards are coming out soon. Any upgrade you do right now won't help you with more VRAM without spending ALOT of money for hardly any graphical improvement.

The gtx 980 Ti is rumored to be coming soon, rumored to have 6gb of VRAM. Then AMD r9 390x is rumored to have 8gb of Vram.

Wait, for something that is more of an upgrade.

The 980 is delivers a significantly better experience for games than the 780 ti. I owned both in the past, I suggest you get the Asus 980 gold card and OC...

The new requirements came out for the witcher 3 and they suggested the 980 for ultra settings however i'm assuming without AA...

Yea that's right! I forgot it doesn't stack the VRAM. Yea I heard the 980 TI was coming out towards the end of may but that also means the upgraded version like the EVGA ACX stuff might be another month away for the 980 TI.

My guess is the 980 ti or whatever it will be called will come at the end of the summer or fall... This card will be Nvidia's answer to the 390x. My guess it will be a cut version of the Titan x with half the vram and less cuda cores...

Your probably right.

I suggest you try a 980, it will be enough for GTA 5 & the Witcher 3 if you use fxaa or no AA @ 1080p

You might need to upgrade your platform and processor to get an optimum experience with GTA 5 & The Witcher 3...

The 980 also has more VRAM and delivers a better gaming experience. These days the titles & drivers are more optimized for maxwell GPU's.

The OP is clearly not satisfied with the 780 ti @ this point...

For example watch dogs with ultra textures is unplayable on a 780 ti however butter smooth on a gtx 980...

I feel like I got a pretty good set up. I upgraded to a I7 3770k about 8 months ago from a I5. I just want to make sure I can run W3 maxed out because I have waited for this game like crazy since W2.

If you go 970 SLI you might as well got 780 Ti SLI.
The GTX 970 has 4gb of ram but the last 500mb is super slow compared to the first 3.5gb. So your goal of more vram wouldn't be reached. You would be adding 1GB of VRAM but only adding 500mb of fast ram.

No problem! I suggest you go for the 980 and sell it before the Cut down GM 200 gets released. This way you can get more out of the Witcher 3 and GTA 5.

I"m waiting for Nvidia to fix the 350.12 driver before I play GTA 5 again... this is the first time I've had issue's with a driver from Nvidia for a long time/.
