My WD Caviar Blue 500GB is signaling that it will fail soon. It can run very slowly. I would guess the motor is failing. Can an individual get a manufacturer refurbish, and would they erase the data? Thank you. ... Bob

It's probably struggling with bad sectors. Run CrystalDiskInfo against it and look for reallocated, pending or uncorrectable sectors. Refurbishing ("SelfScan") erases everything, so you wouldn't want WD to do that, even if they offered to.

I would clone the drive ASAP.
