Changing External HDD Enclosure?

Can I remove the 1TB drive that is currently installed in an old Coolmax external USB enclosure, and install it into a new Mediasonic external USB enclosure?

if both drives are sata and both enclosures will accept the physical size then not a problem.

I would like to do this without having to reformat the drive, but is there any risk to the data?

Would the drive still be looking for the Coolmax hard drive controller after its been moved to the new/different enclosure?

Some enclosures are configured with a 4KB sector size, so you would need to be careful. In such cases you won't lose your data, but you won't be able to access it, either.
